Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:
During Thursday's Marietta City Council meeting, resident C.J. Smith addressed the council about the Pearl Street property that neighbors call "the compound" due to problems with code enforcement that it has presented over time. The condition of the property affects residents, families, businesses, and ball games, and Smith's plan is to force a clean-up and devise ways to keep it cleaned up. The council also presented several ordinances and a resolution for readings, with Resolution 82 authorizing the director of Public Safety and Service to apply for a grant for monies in the Safe Routes to School project. Marietta's Meagle family legacy continues as Dillon Meagle will be following in his father's footsteps and continuing his soccer career at Marietta College this coming fall. A Marietta native, Dillon has followed Marietta College his whole life between his dad being an alumnus and his mother being an employee at the college. Dillion hopes to see his high school success transfer to the collegiate level being a four-time varsity letter winner, number six in career assists, 11 in goals, as well as named first team all-district and all-conference. Marietta is getting a dedicated hard worker who hopes to have an impact on the program during his time there. (Marietta Times)
On Thursday evening, Marietta College held a PioPitch brainstorming session where attendees bounced ideas off each other figuring out how to help individuals fill their lives with purpose and problem-solve for organizations that provide assistance. The director of the Entrepreneurship Program, Dr. Jacqueline Khorassani, felt this was a great session for the younger generation problem solving and be aware of social problems. This, of course, is just the start of a conversation, but building the skills to attack an issue and look for a solution is an important step. Katie Mannix made her college commitment official on Thursday after an amazing run assisting her soccer team to make it to a final-four appearance for the Ohio Division II state playoffs.
