Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. Over the weekend, Marietta College hosted its 186th annual commencement ceremony, graduating 276 students. The ceremony honored retired staff and featured academic awards and prize winners, speeches by the Jewett Oration, and a performance by the choir. Lillian A Daneshamand was named the valedictorian of this year's graduating class, and Tyler Jacob Hartline earned the title of salutatorian. (Marietta Times)
  2. Marietta's tennis team finished off the regular season on a high note, defeating Logan High School in the home season finale. The leaders of the team showed why they have been depended on all season as the number one, two, and three on the team swept the competition in dominating fashion. The team was a bit exhausted going into the finale, as it was the third match in three days, but the Tigers were able to shake off the sluggish feeling and take advantage of the nice weather. The team now prepares for post-season play, as sectionals are scheduled to start this week, and the top talents will be moving on to districts. (Marietta Times)
  3. Over the weekend at Gold Star Park, the Silent Battle Dedication Ceremony took place where the PTSD and suicide awareness memorial monument was unveiled. Silent Battle committee member Michelle White said that the theme of this year's ceremony was centered around the courage to heal. The event was used as a way to bring awareness for PTSD and suicide for veterans and the surviving families of these veterans. (WTAP)
