This post was contributed by a community member.

Eleanor Jean Vaughn, affectionately known as Jeanie, died May 9, 2026 in Marietta, OH. Jeanie was born April 18, 1938 in Parsons, WV to the late Bevan O. Wilcox and Trella Marie Wilcox. She was a lifelong member of Stephenson United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, WV.

Jeanie had a long and rewarding career with the U.S. Postal Service in Marietta, OH where she was beloved on her route for over thirty-five years. She was also a gifted seamstress, operating shops in Belpre and Marietta earlier in her life. Community members and friends often sought her talent to make custom dresses, uniforms, and quilts.

In her free time, Jeanie was an avid reader and tremendous cook. She treasured hosting book clubs with her friends, and she took pride in sharing her culinary skills with her loved ones. More than anything, Jeanie was an incredible matriarch with an abundance of compassion and support for her family and friends. To be loved by Jeanie was to be at once seen, held, and encouraged. Her sturdy presence was a rare blessing on earth.

Jeanie’s oldest son, Lewis Mark Vaughn of Belpre, Ohio and her brother, Bevan Lynn Wilcox of Parkersburg, WV preceded her in death. She is survived by her longtime partner, Harry Sullivan; two sons—Tim (Kim) and David Vaughn and their father, Gene Vaughn; four grandsons—Clint, Chris, Stephen (Skye), and Matthew Vaughn; one great grandson, Russell Atlas Vaughn; three sisters—Sandra Hackley, Bev Wilcox, and Melanie Brokaw; sister-in-law, Dian Wilcox; and nieces and nephews—Kristi Fragapane, Barry Batson, Suzanne Holcomb, Joe Wilcox, and Kayla Marie.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Jeanie’s memory may make contributions to the United Women in Faith, Stephenson United Church, 805 Liberty Street, Parkersburg, WV, (304) 428-1574.
Her family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date at Stephenson United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, WV.

CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME OF MARIETTA is honored to serve Jeanie's family and offers online condolences as well as many other resources by visiting CawleyandPeoples.com or by following their Facebook page.
