Band of the Week: Marietta High School band prepares winter-themed show under new director (wtap.com) — Marietta High School's Wall of Sound marching band is gearing up for a winter-themed show called "Frost Work" under new director Barnett, who's in her first year leading the program. Students say the band is shaping their confidence, friendships, and life skills as much as their musicianship, with strong support from parents, boosters, and specialized staff.
   

2. West Virginia's mysterious island will glow by candlelight for two nights this fall (wvexplorer.com) — Just across the river from Marietta, Blennerhassett Island will host its candlelit Mansion by Candlelight evenings October 9–10, 2026, complete with sternwheeler rides, tours, and period entertainment. The event highlights the island's ties to early Marietta and the Aaron Burr intrigue, which continue to draw history-minded visitors into the Mid-Ohio Valley.
   

3. WSCO Workforce 30 initiative focuses on Southeast Ohio jobs (wtap.com) — From its Marietta campus, Washington State College of Ohio is leading a Workforce 30 initiative to align local education and training with in-demand Southeast Ohio careers. Partners are tackling looming retirements, boosting early career exposure, and expanding paid learn-and-earn programs so more young people can build their futures close to home.
   

4. Nonprofit Harvest of Hope welcomes new executive director to lead food rescue mission (wtap.com) — Washington County Harvest of Hope in Marietta has named Shannon Boone as its new executive director, guiding the nonprofit's food rescue work across the county. She's training with the outgoing director, learning how volunteers move about 1,000 pounds of food weekly, and is already focused on meeting Marietta-area partners, expanding outreach, and recruiting new volunteers from local families and businesses.
   

5. Turner Hill goes 3 for 4; Reds score 7 in 9th to beat Giants 10-9 (mariettatimes.com) — A huge ninth-inning rally lifted the Reds over the Giants 10–9, and Marietta native Turner Hill played a key role by going 3-for-4 and boosting his early-season batting stats. Hill, a lifelong Reds fan, is off to a strong start in the majors, giving Marietta baseball fans someone local to cheer for on Cincinnati's roster.
