📰 News we're reading

1. Council to celebrate two Appalachian Community Grant Program Project ribbon cuttings (athensmessenger.com) — Marietta residents are invited Tuesday, Sept. 8, to celebrate the $9.4 million Levee Park improvements that revamped Ohio Street, enhanced riverfront access, and upgraded gathering spaces along the Ohio River. A second ribbon cutting in Chauncey will highlight downtown revitalization, both funded through the Appalachian Community Grant Program and supported by Buckeye Hills Regional Council.

2. The Summer Crisis Program through Washington-Morgan Community Action can provide assistance to families (newsandsentinel.com) — Income-eligible Marietta residents can get help with electric bills, air conditioners, fans, or AC repairs through the Summer Crisis Program running until September 30. Washington-Morgan Community Action's Washington County office on Putnam Street handles applications, which require an appointment and documentation of income, household members, and any medical need for cooling. The program targets seniors, medically vulnerable residents, and households facing disconnection.

3. Fort Harmar partners receive annual Flag Award (mariettatimes.com) — Marietta's city government and the Friends of Fort Harmar have been honored with the local Sons of the American Revolution's annual Flag Award for their patriotic flag display and care of the Fort Harmar Memorial. Volunteers from Marietta and across Washington County have helped preserve the historic riverfront site and highlight its role in early U.S. frontier history.

4. Boil advisory cancelled for Caro Lane in Marietta (wtap.com) — If you live on or near Caro Lane in Marietta, the city has lifted the boil advisory issued after Thursday's water line break, and normal use is now allowed. Officials say any brown or cloudy water after service restoration is from harmless mineral deposits or air, and recommend flushing cold-water lines until the water runs clear.

5. Marietta's redesigned levee opens ahead of Sternwheel Festival (wtap.com) — Marietta's newly redesigned levee along the riverfront is now open, just in time for next week's ribbon cutting and the 50th Ohio River Sternwheel Festival downtown. City crews spent the year improving landscaping, parking, and safety, with permanent railings, lighting, and benches still being installed through October. Residents can already use the space safely during the upcoming celebrations.
