📰 News we're reading

• Industry, advocates differ on water-field risks (newsandsentinel.com) — Marietta officials have shelved plans for new groundwater monitoring wells, concluding they'd offer limited early warning and might even create pathways for brine contamination, while continuing regular testing for VOCs, chloride, conductivity, and PFOS. As debate continues over nearby injection wells, the city's new water-treatment plant is expected to be fully online within 30–45 days, with added PFOS treatment not projected to raise costs for Marietta and Reno customers.

• Revenge game: Tigers clip Falcons, 2-1 (mariettatimes.com) — Marietta soccer fans saw the Tigers edge Fairfield Union 2–1 in Devola, with keeper Finn Tindall's dramatic penalty-kick double save anchoring the win. Early and late goals from Marietta players secured revenge for last year's postseason loss, and the team now sits at 2-1-2 heading into a key road match at Warren on Tuesday.

• Governor's Appointments for September 4, 2026 (ohio.gov) — Two Marietta residents, Nancy Hollister and Jodey Altier, have been appointed and reappointed to the Washington State College of Ohio Board of Trustees, with terms running through 2032. Their selections are part of a long list of statewide board and commission appointments by Gov. Mike DeWine, giving Marietta a direct voice in the regional college's leadership and future planning.
