1. Ohio woman alleges hospital amputated the wrong leg (nbc4i.com) — A Meigs County woman is suing a Marietta hospital, alleging surgeons amputated her left leg instead of the right one scheduled, then removed the right leg months later, leaving her a double amputee. The lawsuit, filed in Washington County Common Pleas Court, accuses Selby General Hospital staff of negligence and other claims. Marietta-based Memorial Health System calls the error avoidable and says involved staff are gone.
2. Washington State College of Ohio expands health programs with remodeled labs (wtap.com) — Washington State College of Ohio in Marietta has overhauled its science and medical labs and launched a new occupational therapy assistant program to better prepare local students for health care careers. About 400–500 students now train on equipment similar to what area hospitals use. The college will showcase its upgraded labs and programs at a health showcase on October 29.
3. Marietta golf team snaps forty year drought (wtap.com) — Marietta High School's golf team has broken a 40-year dry spell by qualifying for the state tournament, thrilling players, coaches, and local supporters. Coach Jason Discini credits the team's coachability and tight-knit support, while seniors say the historic achievement is still sinking in. Community members and alumni have been turning out in force to cheer them on.
4. Additional information released in Grandview Township killing (mariettatimes.com) — A Marietta resident has been charged with murder and other offenses after an elderly Grandview Township man was killed and his wife wounded in a Sunday home invasion. Investigators say the suspect admitted stealing a handgun, shooting the couple, and taking medication, jewelry, and silverware before fleeing, prompting an overnight manhunt that ended with his arrest in New Matamoras.
5. Cybersecurity student overcomes language barrier after moving from Venezuela (wtap.com) — A Washington State College of Ohio cybersecurity student in Marietta is wrapping up her first year after arriving from Venezuela in 2020 with very limited English. With support from people around her and practice that even started at the gym, she's now on track for an associate degree. She hopes to use cybersecurity skills to protect people, companies, and even medical systems.
