Marietta historical tidbit of the day:
Rufus Putnam, the founder of Marietta and Superintendent of the Ohio Company was a six-foot-tall, stout man. He had a prominent nose, and a disfigured right eye, which looked out. He didn't have much in the way of formal education and wasn't very good at writing or spelling. However he was practically filled to the brim with practical knowledge and skills. He served in the French and Indian war, he would eventually design fortifications for the Patriot cause. He became a Colonel, and eventually a Brigadier General.
