Obituary

James William King, Jr., 85, of Marietta, Ohio, died on Thursday, September 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 15, 1938, in Marietta, to the late Alma Schwendeman King and James William King, Sr.

Jim graduated from Marietta High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Marietta College, where he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959. He was a lifelong entrepreneur and owned and operated King Carpet, King’s Kreamy Kreations, King’s Wings, and Fitness Zone.

Jim’s passion and zeal for the Catholic faith was accompanied by his deep love for his family and commitment to his children and grandchildren. Jim was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption and active volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul.

He shared his love for the Ohio River with many, especially at his cherished river house, Camp King, where he taught friends and family to water-ski. He lived his life with vitality and an enthusiasm for health and fitness.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Joanne Biedenbach King, whom he married on June 16, 1974; two children, Aaron King (Sarah) and Andrea Albanese; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob, Gianna, Lily, Evie, Lucy and Matthew; two sisters, Jeannine Crow (Don) and Jerri Binder; and many nieces and nephews. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.

He was preceded in death by his son in law, Jim Albanese; and niece, Tracy Stohle.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024. Burial will follow in New St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOMES on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service held at 4:00 p.m.
