Joseph "Joe" A. Helm III

Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Anderson Helm III, 66, of Marietta, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at his residence in Marietta. Joe was born May 9, 1958, in Charleston, WV, to Joseph Jr. and Nancy Helm.

Joe spent the majority of his life in Marietta, where he graduated from Marietta High School in 1976 and then proudly served his country in the Army as a Private. After, Joe went on to attend the Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelors’ degree in History. Joe was a man of strong Christian faith and obtained a Master’s degree in Theology from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio.

He was an avid sports fan and supporter of his nieces and nephews, and a loving uncle to them. Joe could be found cheering at every sporting event that they participated in. He also cheered alongside them during Ohio State football games on Saturdays in the fall. Joe loved watching the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games with his mom, while he helped to care for her in her older years. He also loved cheering for his father’s alma mater, North Carolina State University, in any sport imaginable. Joe was an avid classic rock fan, and continuously tortured his nieces, nephews, and brother on car rides while educating them on the history of classic rock.
