Marietta historical tidbit of the day:
Due to some actions of a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses in Marietta during World War II, more than 500 citizens called for city council to limit their activities. Others in the county felt labeling a religion subversive and suppressing them was dangerous to First Amendment rights. An ordinance was proposed to require vendors of magazines, pamphlets, and printed materials to buy a license, and take an oath swearing allegiance to the American flag. After the matter was batted around in public for months it was ultimately killed in September 1942.
