Obituary

Ruth Williamson Ruf, 87, of Williamstown died on Sunday, April 28 joining her beloved husband, Joe of 54 years. Ruthie was born August 25, 1936, in Marietta, Ohio, the daughter of Frank E. and Margaret Rietz Williamson.

Following graduation from Marietta High School in 1954 she attended The Ohio State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a member of the church session, deacons, taught Sunday school, Choir Director and President of the Women’s Association. She was also a member of the Williamstown Women’s Club where she was past president, member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for women teachers, active in Williamstown Relay for Life, former member of Betsey Mills Club Trustees, Williamstown Public Library Board and Board of Drug Free Jackets. Ruthie began her teaching career at Lowell Elementary. After staying home with her young children she substituted for Wood County Schools and then teaching first grade at Williamstown Elementary for 13 years until her retirement.

She is survived by two children Susan (Jim) Barengo of Marietta, OH and Greg (Brenda) Ruf of Dublin, OH. Also surviving are grandchildren Alex (Erin) and Eric (Jenna) Barengo, Carl (Jordan) and Mark (Megan) Ruf and Eva (Austin) Seiple; and great grandchildren Holden, Edyn, Dahlia, and Layla Ruf, Finley and Arthur Barengo and Emma Seiple.

Ruthie was married in July 1958 to James J. (Joe) who preceded her in death on November 10, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret Williamson Marshall.

Ruthie will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 12:00 pm at The First Presbyterian Church in Williamstown, with Pastor Elizabeth Campbell-Maleke officiating. The visitation will be from 10 AM to noon Saturday preceding the funeral service at noon. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

The family would like to thank The Pines at Glenwood in Marietta and Brookdale Dublin for their loving care. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department, 411 West 5th Street, Williamstown, WV 26187.
