Obituary

Sue Ann Adam McKnight, 81, of Marietta, Ohio, died on Friday, August 16, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 13, 1943 in Shelby, Ohio to the late Richard and Betty Richards Adam.
Sue graduated from Shelby High School, class of 1961 and attended Grant Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in the medical field until transferring with her husband, Robert McKnight, whom she married on September 14, 1963. She was active in various community organizations as they transferred to numerous communities in his banking career.
Her love of children eventually led her into the teaching field, obtaining her certificate in early childhood and then taught preschool at Betsey’s Learning Tree for 25 years.
She was a former member of The Marietta Welfare League, serving on various committees, volunteered for the Toy and Doll Museum, where she was a member of the board, and was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. Sue enjoyed reading, music and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Cavalier fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Richard Adam, Jr.; niece, Jill Adam; and aunt, Marilyn Richards.
She is survived by her sons, Christian (Laura) McKnight and Andrew (Julia) McKnight; sister in law, Connie Adam; grandchildren, Madison, Adam and A.J.; great grandchildren, James and Dresden; nieces, Lizabeth (Daryl) Brackeen and Deborah (Tod) Craig; and special friends, Tallarie Stewart, Joann Roberts and Gert Bradley.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. Visitation will be at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 11 to 1:30 p.m.
