The directors of the Washington County Board of Elections sat down to discuss the particulars of this month's meeting.

MARIETTA, OH — Today was the April meeting for the Washington County Board of Elections. Patch sat down with Mandy Amos, director of the board, and Karen Pawloski, deputy director of the board. They agreed to recap the meeting by going through the agenda.

1. Call to Order, Pledge of Allegiance
2. Public Comment
There was one public comment. Pawloski said a township trustee named Jed said that he through the Board of Elections was one of the best run organizations in the county and he's glad to be a part of it.
3. Minutes
The minutes from two previous meetings in March had to be approved. One was the regular March meeting, the other was a special meeting in March held to approve the May, 4 ballot. Both sets of minutes were approved without dispute.
4. Bills
Suddenlink, monthly internet charge and fees, $227.62

The bills were all approved without dispute.
5. Correspondence
Directive 2021-12 Special Congressional election in Ohio's 11th Congressional District
This is just a directive issued by the Secretary of State that does not affect our district.
Directive 2021-13 Unofficial and Official Canvasses of the May 4, 2021 Primary/Special Election; Open meetings; and Precinct Election Official training
This is another directive issued by the Secretary of State, this one does affect our district. This deals with procedures they have to follow to get an unofficial count (unofficial canvass) on Election Day, and an official count (official canvass) a couple of weeks after Election Day.
Memorandum 2021-01 Responsibilities of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police in the 2021 Primary/Special Election
This is just a reminder to law enforcement in the community that if they're needed on Election Day, the Board of Elections is a priority. Election officials don't foresee this being an issue this election.

Approve voting machine allocation
This was the board approving sending a certain number of voting machines to various polling places.
Money received from SOS and PPE purchases for Primary/Special Election $690.00
They received nearly $700.00 for PPE from the Secretary of State. Election officials say they have a lot of PPE left over from the last one so they are ready for another safe and sanitary election.
Must be open the weekend after the election as part of the 7 day cure period- Sat. 8-12pm Sun. 1-5pm
This is making it public for absentee or provisional voters who might need to fix issues with verifying their ID. When an error is detected, the Board of Elections will send a letter notifying them they need to correct the error, or "cure" their ballot. They have up to seven days after the election to fix the issue.

The Board of Elections set the date for official canvass as May 17 at 8:30.
2021 SOS Summer Conference dates June 8 & 9, 2021 at the Columbus Hyatt Regency
This is announcing the Secretary of State's conference for county election officials. They have these twice a year, the idea is to make sure election officials are up to date with policy and procedure. This will be the first in-person conference since the pandemic.
Employee sick, comp, and vacation time updates
This is just personnel information.
7. Future discussions
MOU and JFS
This is a memorandum of understanding dealing with the fact that the Board of Elections works out of the building owned by Job and Family Services, and that they plan to continue to do so.

9. Next Meeting will be on May 4, 2021, at 6:00 AM
The board is going to be meeting to officially open up voting for the county.
