- Mayor Schlicher said all the Memorial Day celebrations went swimmingly yesterday. He said folks got out there, went to the parades, and honored our troops who gave their lives defending freedom.
- The Marietta Aquatic Center is now open. It opened up yesterday, two days after it was scheduled to be due to weather. He said the renovations went well, so did opening day, and that they're looking forward to a long and successful season.
- This week Marietta work crews are continuing to hit the downtown area with the All-Out Rollout project. This is a citywide program where crews go street to street, filling potholes, fixing parking lots, landscaping, replacing street signs, updating the lighting, repainting crosswalks. "It's a huge maintenance program." The city is focusing on the Second Ward which includes much of downtown.
- The skate park is closed for the week while a group of committed volunteers work on upgrading it.
- The mayor said they have some city commissions and boards that need people. The fair housing board is in desperate need of help. They only have two people, they need five. The city's Recreation Committee needs people too. The Tree Commission will also be in need new members soon. Schlicher asks folks who want to get involved in their community to help out. "It's not a huge commitment." Anyone interested should call City Hall (740) 373-1387 and ask for the mayor.
- The city is going to be updating information on their website, Mayor Schlicher says some of it is decades old and long obsolete.
Ongoing projects
- Improvements to the city's wastewater plant.
- The city is continuing to work to identify blighted properties and rectify those for a safer and more beautiful Marietta.
- Various road and drainage projects.
- There is work ongoing on the city cemeteries and the city parks.
- The city is continuing to work on the planning and fundraising for the Start Westward Monument project.
