The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Marietta.

Good day, neighbors! Sean Peek here with today's issue of the Marietta Daily.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and colder. High: 34 Low: 18.
Here are the top 2 stories in Marietta today:
- Marietta residents came together earlier to watch the beginning of the Winter Solstice. Residents gathered at Sacra Via Park at 4 p.m. to observe the start of the longest night of the year. Castle Museum officials say that the park has historic relevance, as the Native Americans two thousand years ago watched the solstice as well. (WTAP-TV)
- Volunteers from the Salvation Army and the Marietta Community Foundation came together to make Christmas morning a little brighter for area children and families in need. The Salvation Army Angel Tree distribution was held Monday as a drive-thru at the Washington County Fairgrounds' poultry building due to COVID-19 concerns. Bags of presents generously donated from area individuals and businesses stretched throughout the facility, awaiting their pickup.

From my notebook:
- The Washington County Sheriff's Office has announced they arrested and charged a man with failure to comply, assault of a peace officer, and fictitious plates. On Dec. 20, 2021, Deputy Painter was dispatched to the Veto Road/State Route 7 south area to assist the Wood County Sheriff's Department, Parkersburg, WV, who had engaged in a vehicle pursuit with a subject wanted for questioning in a recent domestic violence incident in their jurisdiction. - Yesterday, the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley had a half-price adoption fee for all-black coated animals. They also received so many donations from various members of the community, including from the Washington County Career Center Medical College Prep Seniors. (Facebook)
- Therapy dogs Vinny, Gidget, and Tucker came in last week (with their owner, Erin Miller) to donate 40 chemo care thirty-one bags in memory of Erin's grandfather, Jim Leonhart. Mr. Leonhart loved to donate these care packages for our patients, and Erin and her friends and family have carried on the tradition in his memory. (Facebook)
