Fisher's Tavern Still a Landmark Under New Owner

Casual, fun and a great view of the turning leaves

Come for the food or for the scenery, but don’t miss your last chance to sit outside as the leaves start to turn. Saying to any Hillcrest resident is like referring to the intersection of Wilson Mills and SOM Center roads; everyone knows it, although not everyone has been there recently.

Fisher’s, 718 SOM Center Road, is under new management, but this landmark tavern has not changed all that much. The patio is the major draw during the warm sunny days, and the warm comfy interior is great when it gets colder.

Although the name says tavern, this is a place to take your kids, grandmother and softball teammates. The food is solid American fare with a nod to ethnic eats.

There are fresh and fried appetizers, or salads for a start. The sandwich menu is extensive. This includes a battered fish sandwich and other classics. Vegetarian selections are possible, but check with your server before ordering.

Burgers are another mainstay. Choose from a variety like a classic plain burger to a burger with all the toppings. It all depends how hungry you are.

Fish fries are a favorite with many people, and the Saturday night prime rib is also very popular.

Inside or outside, Fisher’s is a place to revisit and enjoy the food and the season.
