Great Escape: Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre

Experience a blast from the past

Roping teenagers into Family Time is not so easy, huh? Here’s a plan: Just say, "Hey, just get in the car. We’re going to the drive-in and you’re going to love it."

They will. The Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre concession stand has every forbidden food imaginable, including some that aren’t, like the Sloppy Dog, a hot dog slathered with nacho cheese sauce, Coney sauce and onions.

This weekend’s films include Contagion, at 8 p.m, and Crazy Stupid Love, at 9:55 p.m. But don’t tell the kids that both films are PG-13. Just say they’re both scary, which in a way is true. The cost per car is $18, including the family dog, if you can’t leave home without him. If you want to bring in your own chow, be prepared to pay a $5 fee for the privilege.

The drive-in is located on Route 322 (Mayfield Road) just west of state Route 44. That’s about 20 minutes west of Mayfield Heights.
