Great Escape: Melting Pot

If you’ll recall, the late '60s and early '70s were weird. If you don’t recall, take our word for it.

If you need proof, consider fondue, the era’s big food fad. It was inescapable since everyone seemed to own an avocado and harvest gold fondue pot and a set of long skinny forks, along with the unquenchable need to burn melted cheese concoctions and melt chocolate. Big fun, indeed.

So how about a blast from the past? Escape to the Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant located above Starbucks at Legacy Village, Cedar Road, Lyndhurst, where tableside fondue cooking is an art. Start with cheese fondue, follow with an entrée fondue and
finish with – yes – chocolate fondue.

The restaurant is open noon to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Bell-bottoms optional.
