Mayfield Library Offers Drive-Thru Starting June 1

The Cuyahoga County Public Libraries are starting a gradual, phased reopening.

MAYFIELD, OH — After two months of closure, the Cuyahoga County Public Library system is beginning a phased reopening. Mayfield Public Library will offer drive-thru services to customers starting June 1.

"We are eager to begin offering drive-through and curbside services," said the library system's Executive Director Tracy Strobel. "Our leadership team has taken great care to ensure we can execute this plan safely for both our staff and customers. Their health, safety and peace of mind are of the utmost importance."

All Cuyahoga County Public Library branches were closed March 13 as a precaution against the new coronavirus. Book drops were closed and customers were asked to keep their loaned materials until the library system could reopen. All fines and fees for late materials were waived.

During the closure, the library system supplemented its digital collection of eBooks and audiobooks and began offering virtual programs for customers. The branches also launched an "Ask Us Online" service to provide virtual reference and email support.

Starting June 1, 13 Cuyahoga County Public Library branches will partially reopen, offering either drive-thru or curbside pick-up services. The service will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Customers will not be able to enter the libraries.

Solon Public Library and Fairview Park Public Library will offer curbside pick-up. The following branches will offer drive-thru service:

  • Beachwood Branch
  • Garfield Heights Branch
  • Mayfield Branch
  • Middleburg Heights Branch
  • North Royalton Branch
  • Olmsted Falls Branch
  • Orange Branch
  • Parma
  • Parma-Snow
  • South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch
  • Warrensville Heights Branch

Customers can begin returning their loaned items on June 1. Library staff will also call customers who have items on hold to tell them how they can collect their items. Customers should not try to collect items until they have been contacted by staff.

Returned items should be left in book drops. Items can be returned to any of the library system's 27 branches or its MetroHealth Service Point. All returned materials will be quarantined for 72 hours as a precaution.

All library staff are being trained to work the drive-thru or curbside service, or to process materials and holds. Staff will also be trained on COVID-19 safety protocols. Protective equipment will be issued to all staff and workers will be required to check their temperature prior to working.

The Cuyahoga County Public Library system is working on its next phases of reopening, which will offer limited public access to branches and then full access to branches. No dates have been set for those phases of reopening.

"As we look ahead to executing the next phases in this plan we will continue to do so thoughtfully and with public health as our top priority," Strobel said.
