Mayfield Village's Snow Program Ready to Go

Many signs point to the end of summer, including kids going back to school and the high school football season beginning the final week of August with the college and pro teams not too far behind.

In Mayfield Village, the transition is signaled by seemingly skipping right past fall’s pleasantries and heading toward allocating money for the annual Senior Snow Removal Program.

Wow, it’s already time to talk about winter? A bummer at the end of summer, certainly, but necessary nonetheless.

Council signed off on $60,750 in payments for the 2012-2013 winter program during Monday’s meeting. MJO Lawn, Ameriscape, Interlock Paving and A&G Landscapes’ bids were accepted for the measure. The village and its resident split the program’s cost right down the middle.

Mayor Bruce Rinker said the program began many years ago as a means to help seniors have their driveways plowed in the winter and to keep them from being taken advantage of by services that promise to do the work but take their money and run.

“It’s an opportunity to be able to provide the service, more consistently on a broader basis and from a public demographic standpoint. It’s become a very popular program. It really is a staple,” Rinker said.

Plus, it wouldn’t hurt if the area had a repeat of last year’s weather.

"If we have another winter like last year, it’ll be great," Rinker said.

Also, council voted to maintain its agreement with Bedford for jailing in the region. Gates Mills also did the same at last week’s village council meeting.

Council paid a few other bills including for asbestos removal at the old Village Hall and police station site and for window repairs and painting touch-ups of the and its steeple.
