Menchie's Weighs in on SOM Center Road

Fro-yo you mix, weigh and then pay

Menchie’s, 1288 SOM Center Road, Mayfield Heights, has an almost infinite number of ways to bring out the kid in you. Swirl, scoop, sprinkle and mush your favorite mixture. The secret is the seemingly endless choices of frozen yogurt flavors and toppings. Combining them creates an unimaginable number of possibilities bursting with flavor.

Before you try your hand at self-serve, here is a quick primer. There are four basic groups with 10 or more flavors being available at any one time.

The first is regular. Choose from an overall total of 40 regular flavors, including blueberry tart, Georgia peach, N.Y. cheesecake, or coconut. Go crazy with chocolate; chocolate, chocolate cake, chocolate espresso, milk chocolate, dark chocolate. Plain Jane vanilla is also available, but in French vanilla, vanilla, vanilla latte and very vanilla. Peanut butter lovers should also delight in having two choices.

If none of these tingle your taste buds, then there are plenty more to choose from.

The no-sugar-added and low-carb groups boast more than 30 flavors to rival the regular flavors. In the fourth group, kiwi-strawberry, mango, orange, and berry are the dairy-free sorbet options.

Once you’ve picked your flavor(s) and let the yogurt swirl into your dish, its time to make some tough choices: Snackage, Chill or Hottie. The Snackage bar has all the favorites like sprinkles, nuts, and sno-caps. The Chill bar has lots of fruit toppings as well as cookie dough and cheesecake bits. The Hottie area is full of hot fudge and caramel. Everything is clearly labeled including the sugar-free and fat-free choices.

The live and active cultures in yogurt can help you feel better about splurging on some toppings. Go whole hog, or stop in for a little taste; Menchie’s has what you want.
