Part 4 – Advice

One of the smarter things I felt I did was talk to other elected officials. Mayor Scott Coleman, Councilman Frank Legan, Mayfield Board of Education Member Al Hess and several others all kindly answered my phone calls, and took a few minutes of their time to answer my questions. Each had a unique perspective, and provided me with some very useful advice.

The overwhelming conclusion I came to from these discussions, is that I need to be me. I am proud to be a Father, a Husband, a Veteran and a Civil Engineer. I make my decisions based on the information I have, to the best of my abilities. I work hard, and try to fair, but I am human and can make mistakes. I feel the best of us can admit when we make a mistake, and then work hard to make it right.

I posted my three (3) rules in the boy’s rooms. I feel if they learn and live by these three, they will do just fine in life.

1.      Treat people how you would want to be treated.

2.      Life is not fair.

3.      If you have to do something, do it right.

Is it shocking to learn my kids are not particularly fond of rule #2? Grudgingly, they know it is true.
