I have been told that healthcare fraud does not affect a patient’s health and safety. I strongly disagree. Falsifying a diagnosis can cause a condition that you do not even have to be added to your permanent medical record. This could have a serious impact on the treatment that you do or do not receive, which clearly puts your health at risk. Your personal finances are affected as well. You will be paying higher premiums, higher out-of-pocket expenses, and if you cannot afford to pay those bills, your credit is at risk. There are still providers out there with morals and values, but not all providers are honest. With the help of the “system”, they continue to submit false claims to the insurance companies for reimbursement. The best thing you can do is to make sure you understand what services are being provided and then compare them to your Explanation of Benefits. If you find a discrepancy, question it immediately.
