Police Blotter: DUI Issued to Swerving Driver

Information supplied by the Mayfield Village Police Department

A man was arrested for a DUI going southbound on SOM Center Rd. during the evening of Aug. 16. A caller said the man hit a median and a tire was coming off the vehicle as it passed the construction site for the new library. With the side of the black Chevy Tahoe smashed also, police followed him until he stopped at the . Police discovered the man had a warrant out on him from Gates Mills. The man was sent to for a blood test. After returning to the Mayfield Village police station, Gates Mills police took him into custody.

Rape: A man said a female friend of his was raped in Willoughby the morning of Aug. 17. The man said she got out of his vehicle and was lying in the grass on SOM Center Rd. with help from another woman. Willoughby police arrived on the scene, and the woman was taken to Hillcrest Hospital.

Scam: A man reported he was being harassed by a scam business telling him he had won money. The man contacted the Better Business Bureau and Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes who told him it was a scam business. The man wanted to speak to an officer and was told no crime had been committed and no report was filed at this time.

Unwanted solicitation: A resident reported two men walking around the Metro Park Dr. and Zorn Lane area asking if they want mildew cleaned off their houses on the evening of Aug. 15. Both had short brown hair and were between 5-8 and 5-10 in height with tattoos on their arms. Police caught up to both men and advised them to get permits and to leave the area. Police also located another man on Wildwood Trail who was from Texas. He, along with another associate, was told to leave the village.

Suspicious car: Police found a white Mercedes with a broken window parked in the back of the morning of Aug. 16. Everything else in the car checked out fine. Those at the business were not aware of the vehicle or why it would be parked there. A man called who said his sister had taken the vehicle the day before to make a local visit. But the vehicle got a flat tire, and it was parked in Skoda Minotti’s lot in hopes it would be repaired later. The car’s owners were aware of the broken window.

Dog bark gets owner bitten: A SOM Center Rd. resident was cited for having a dog barking excessively in the backyard the morning of Aug. 18.
