Tri Community CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Accepting New Applicants
Volunteer to help your community. Learn disaster preparedness. Help First Responders in the event of an emergency.
The Tri Community CERT is a volunteer organization that has the primary responsibility of assisting First Responders in the event of an emergency. We serve Highland Heights, Mayfield Heights and Mayfield Village. We also assist at community events such as St. Paschal's Spring Fling, the Mayfield Village Cruise night, Mayfield Heights Unity Days, and Highland Heights Community Day by helping with first aid, distributing Red Cross preparedness materials, pedestrian/traffic control, perimeter support during fireworks and more. We have also responded by assisting with warming and cooling centers during power outages, home checks during power outages, responding to the Sherri Park Apartments fire to assist First Responders, and most recently, we assisted with a police/fire active shooter drill in Mayfield Village. Our organization is part of the FEMA umbrella of volunteer groups. Members receive training in areas of medical operations, fire control, disaster psychology, building size-up and search and rescue, and much more. The training is free, as is a backpack that includes flashlight, vest, helmet, all-purpose tool, first aid kit, gloves, goggles and other items that assist in the event of an emergency. We need additional team members, and will schedule a class as soon as we have about 10 applicants. The program is open to residents of Highland Heights, Mayfield Heights and Mayfield Village age 18 and over. A criminal background check is completed.
