Viewfinder: A River Runs Through It

A ceramic wall mural brings together students from kindergarten to fifth grade

A River Runs Through It ceramic wall mural was the culmination of the hard work of all the grades in Gates Mills Elementary school. Art teacher Heather Vokic and George Woideck, ceramic artist in residence, contributed to the creative side of things, while the Academic Boosters and Gates Mills PTO offered financial support.

The mural shows the seven facets unique to Gates Mills. Art classes and each grade explored a different side to the community: kindergarten – safety forces; first grade – Gates Mills Library; second grade – Chagrin River; third grade – Chagrin Vally Hunt Club; fourth grade – Gates Mills Elementary school; fifth grade – Arboretum and Land Conservancy; and art classes – Interurban Railroad in Gates Mills.

The gala event also showcased students' work through out the year. Younger siblings attended open-eyed. Adults and former students were all impressed with what was new.
