• Vinton County officials working to tally up damage from ‘generational flood' (athensmessenger.com) — Severe flooding around McArthur and across Vinton County has left dozens of families displaced, wrecked homes and vehicles, and washed out township roads and crops, with road damage alone estimated near $400,000. County officials are scrambling to provide dumpsters, shelter, and storage while racing to document losses before an Oct. 6 deadline to qualify for state and FEMA disaster aid.
