Though the jury’s still out on eating in the library, the Lake branch is offering an opportunity to decorate cupcakes in the building. Participants are urged to put their creativity to the test and compete in a timed competition that’s sweeter than anything in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In one hour, competitors must decorate a cupcake based on a book of their choice. Entries are then judged by library staff, with winners receiving prizes.

History buffs will not want to miss this presentation being held in the Main Library. Detailing the story of Union General William Rosecrans, the presentation touches on his New Year’s victory at Stones River against Confederate General Braxton Bragg and their “cat and mouse” chase through Tennessee. Presented by David Lintern, the library urges those interested to register online or call for more information.
Community Paper Shred Day
Saturday April 16, 9 a.m.
The irony of going to the library to shred paper may not be lost on some, but this annual tradition will be held once again this year at the Main Library’s auxiliary lot. Now in its sixth year, patrons and Mentor residents are asked to bring up to five boxes of documents to be sent away to a secure facility for shredding. The event is also a partnership with Xpress Shredding of Mentor.
Powerpoint and Excel Classes
Thursday April 21, Powerpoint at 2 p.m.; Excel at 6 p.m.
The Main Library is offering in-depth 90 minute classes on how to use Microsoft Office programs Powerpoint and Excel. Powerpoint students will learn a basic introduction to the program and shortcuts, and also make basic presentations. Those needing help with Excel will have the opportunity later that evening to learn to hide and freeze columns and rows, create and format charts, and use print areas. There are, however, wait lists for these classes, so be sure to call about them promptly.
