• Northeast Ohio communities plan 9/11 remembrances (news-herald.com) — Mentor residents are invited to a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Mentor Safety Forces Memorial between the police station and Fire Station No. 5 on Civic Center Boulevard. The event will honor lives lost in the attacks and recognize first responders' sacrifice, alongside similar ceremonies in nearby Lake County communities.
   

• 2027 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists named across Ohio: See the complete list of students (cleveland.com) — Mentor High School students Elizabeth Plumley and Daniel Tur are among Ohio seniors named 2027 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, putting local academic achievement on a statewide stage. They join an elite group of less than 1% of U.S. seniors now competing for scholarships, with finalists to be announced next spring after applications and test scores are reviewed.
   

• Lake Catholic vs. Gilmour football: 'College GameDay' experience anticipated for Sept. 12 showdown (news-herald.com) — Lake Catholic will host Gilmour in a special noon "College GameDay"-style matchup Sept. 12 at its on-campus John Gibbons Athletic Complex, instead of the usual games at Mentor's Jerome T. Osborne Stadium. The day will feature food trucks, a kids zone, tailgating, and extra seating as the community rallies around a physical, run-heavy nonconference showdown.
