New Mentor e-bike rules require helmets for all riders (cleveland.com) — Mentor is rolling out new e-bike safety rules that require helmets for all electric bicycle riders and passengers, including on Class 1 and 2 bikes. The ordinances, recommended by Mentor police, also limit when passengers are allowed and require cyclists to give an audible warning before passing pedestrians on sidewalks or shared-use paths.
2. Council approves bid for 2026 Mentor Facilities Paving Project (news-herald.com) — Mentor has approved a roughly $776,000 contract with Ohio Paving to resurface Garfield Park parking lots, repair Dogwood Lane, and repave sections of Route 306 around Mentor Avenue, with work done at night on the state route. The project also adds and resurfaces several roads inside Mentor Cemetery, all scheduled for completion by November 13.
3. 2026-2027 Global Scholars (owu.edu) — A Mentor student, Maya Helwig, has been selected for Ohio Wesleyan University's prestigious four-year Global Scholars Program, which includes a $6,000 study-abroad grant and a senior capstone project. The program supports high-achieving first-year students passionate about international issues, giving them specialized coursework, global experiences, and a Global Studies Institute certificate at graduation.
4. Ohio high school football Division III stars: Meet the fans' top early-season picks (cleveland.com) — Mentor High School gets a shout-out as the site of a 2025 matchup featuring Lake Catholic and CVCA, tying local fields into a statewide look at Division III football standouts. The story highlights fan-voted preseason stars at several positions, giving Lake County fans context on who to watch across Ohio this fall.
