Bites Nearby: Cabana's Island Restaurant

Ignore the rumors; Cabana's Island Restaurant is back

Rumors are started in different ways.

When Kelly and Michael Good opened their second Cabana's Island Restaurant, 12718 Mayfield Rd., in Chardon last year (formerly the popular 19th Hole), their Mentor patrons began to whisper: Was Cabana's changing counties?

Then its Mentor location was moved from Station Street to 9055 Mentor Ave. and remodeled — all the way down to the floor. People next speculated Chardon was not embracing the island-themed restaurant. Maybe it was next to be closed.

“It's hysterical,” Kelly said. “It just cracks me up to hear the same story again.”

The six-month renovation is now complete at Cabana's in Mentor, giving it even more of that tropical feel. The menu has about 90 different American/island cuisine items from pasta, seafood, burgers and steak. FOX 8 in Cleveland chose it as having the best local seafood in 2008 and 2009.

Difficult to imagine in February,  but there will be a time soon when patrons will be able to enjoy Cabana's new outdoor bar with dining outside underneath a pavilion. Cabana's also has a private dining room that can accommodate up to 26 people. Live entertainment plays starting at 8:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday at the Mentor location.

Visit the restaurant's website for a list of the bands, which tend to be smaller because “we have to watch our noise in this area,” Kelly said. A menu and contact information are also available online.

Promotions include all you can eat grouper on Tuesdays and Thursdays, a Monday pasta night, and Happy Hour from 3 to 6 p.m. on weekdays with $2 beer and drink specials.

And some fact for fighting rumors: Kelly is from Chardon; Michael is from Mentor. “And we'd like to expand. We're looking for number three.”
