Mentor Travel Baseball Tryouts for 2013 Season

Mentor hosting tryouts for travel teams at Garfield Park this weekend.

Even though youth football has begun, this weekend there will be baseball at Garfield Park.  On Saturday and Sunday, August 11th and 12th, Mentor will be holding its annual Travel Team Tryouts for all players interested in playing in the 2013 season.  These tryouts are open to Mentor residents ONLY, but any player, whether they have played travel before or not, is welcome.

Tryouts for the 8U, 9U, 10U & 11U divisions are from 9:00 am to 11:00 am both days with registration starting at 8:00am.  12U, 13U & 14U are from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm both days with registration starting at 10:00 am.  The age cutoff for the divisions is May 1st and the $400 fee is due at tryouts ($250 for 8U - they play in the Rec League and 5 Tournaments).  New this year: Players MUST be present at BOTH days of tryouts.  Players are being asked to not wear anything that would signify that they have played on a travel team before...i.e. hats, jerseys, pants.  If they arrive in travel gear, they will be asked to change.  Current Travel Team Managers, Coaches and League Trustees will be rating the players on hitting, infield, outfield, and general baseball skills.  Coaches and Managers do NOT rate players in their own age division.

On a more personal note, I just want to say to anyone considering bringing their son(s) to try out for the first time that it's such a great experience.  We have been a part of Mentor Travel for three years now and its amazing how much the players learn and develop over the course of the season.  Let's keep this great baseball tradition in Mentor going!  We hope to see you this weekend!
