Blackbrook Audubon welcomes Dr. Sean Williams as he describes "Mixed-species Bird Flocks in Peru" in a presentation at Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen Reservation. The program is open to everyone and begins at 7:00 pm at 8668 Kirtland-Chardon Road in Kirtland.
An Assistant Professor at Cuyahoga Community College, Sean spent over a year doing field work in the rainforest of Peru for his PhD dissertation. Sean says “Our Ohioan mixed-species flocks are ephemeral; individuals transiently form, join, or leave flocks at their convenience. By contrast, understory mixed-species flocks in the Amazon are permanent, a unique feature in the animal kingdom." Aside from his research, he will share adventures from living in a lowland rainforest, including animals he encountered there like monkeys, cats, snakes and Harpy Eagles.
Blackbrook will sell raffle tickets for a 40” x 64” handmade quilt that evening. Proceeds from the ticket sales will go toward Blackbrook's 2027 Education Scholarship awarded to a college student studying a conservation major. The winning ticket for the quilt will be drawn at Blackbrook's November 17 program. The winner need not be present.
Blackbrook provides coffee and light refreshments. They encourage program attendees to bring their own beverage containers so they will be eligible to participate in the Bring Your Own Mug raffle. The drawing for a $25 gift card will be held at a future program meeting and the winner need not be present.
Registration is not required for the evening's free program.
