City of Mentor Is Looking for Some All-Star Baseball Kids

Children will pitch, hit and run in an attempt to compete at the Major League Baseball All-Star game

The City of Mentor Recreation Department will host its annual Pitch, Hit and Run competition from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. on May 3 at the Civic Center ballfields next to .

Anyone who will be 7 to 14 years old as of this July 17 can compete for free.

Players compete in three events. This includes:

  • Batting, which includes three swings off a batting tee. Players will be judged for distance and accuracy
  • Pitching: Pitchers will throw six pitches from 45 feet away at a "strike zone" target
  • Running, which is a timed event that will measure how quickly a kid can sprint from second base to home plate.

Kids should bring their own gloves and no metal spikes are allowed. Bats and balls will be provided, but competitors can use their own bats if they would prefer.

The local winners will advance to sectionals and team competitions. If they continue to win, they can compete in the finals at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
