Turcovsky was one of five monthly winners (November) who earned the Hockey Mom of the Year title after being selected from a diverse judging panel. “Turcovsky exemplifies all the characteristics of an extraordinary hockey mom”, stated Todd Van Horn, hockey program director for Northwood Realty Services, “she goes above and beyond not only for her hockey association but also the community at large.”

Turcovsky serves as the Business Manager for her son, Kilian’s, squirt team facilitating communication between the coaching staff and parents and handling multiple game-day responsibilities before the puck drops. On the association level, Turcovsky serves as the Corresponding Secretary— a position she has held for the last three years.

Growing up in a hockey family watching her brother’s play, hockey traditions were an important part of Turcovsky’s life. Because of this, it was important to her to bring back the “Ice of March” a 20-year hockey tradition to Mentor, Ohio. Turcovsky was instrumental in resurrecting the tournament which includes over 50 teams throughout the region including New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Canada participating.

Off the ice, Turcovsky displays her selflessness on a day-to-day basis. As a special education teacher for sixteen years, Turcovsky works with medically fragile children for the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Her willingness to help those in the special needs community often extends beyond her classroom duties from connecting the families of her students with additional resources to chaperoning a monthly dance for special needs adults.

Turcovsky received a $1,000 donation to her team, a personalized Penguins® jersey, and a commemorative plaque. She and her team will receive the completion of the prize pack, including a team skate at PPG Paints Arena, in Spring 2021 when able within state safety guidelines.

“We appreciate the patience all the hockey moms have displayed when we had to delay the announcement of Hockey Mom of the Year and fulfillment of the prize pack in March”, stated Tom Hosack, chief executive officer of Northwood Realty Services, “we are excited and honored to finally be able to announce Turcovsky as our winner.”
