GoFundMe Supports Family Of Killed Mentor Police Officer
Officer Mat Mazany was killed while working a traffic stop. He leaves behind a son. Donations will go to his family.

MENTOR, OH — A GoFundMe has been set up to gather donations for the family of Patrolman Mat Mazany, who was killed in Mentor on Saturday. The money will go directly to Mazany's surviving family members, the GoFundMe page said.
Mazany was killed when he was hit by a car on SR-2 east, at about 1 a.m. on Saturday. He was assisting on a traffic stop. Mazany was rushed to TriPoint Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Mazany, 41, leaves behind a wife and son. He was a member of the Mentor Police Department for 14 years, the city said.
Mazany came from a family of police officers. Born in Maple Heights, Mazany's father was a police officer with the Maple Heights department for 34 years. Mentor City Manager Kenneth Filipiak said it was Mazany's lifelong ambition to become a police officer.

"Patrolman Mat Mazany remains in our hearts, and he and his family will forever be a part of our Mentor city family forever, forever a part of his brothers and sisters in law enforcement, and will forever hold a special place among all of us for whom he gave his life in service" Filipiak said.

Police departments around Northeast Ohio have expressed their condolences to both Mazany's family and the city of Mentor.
