The national qualifiers were treated like stars as they were cheered throughout the district Monday

A group of nationally recognized Mentor students received the kind of rock-star treatment on Monday they previously only dreamt about.

The district brought the Memorial Middle School Science Olympiad team for a bus tour of the district as a show of support before the students head to Dayton on Friday for the national competition. After claiming aΒ runner-up title in the state competition last month.

Memorial is the first school in the district's history to reach the national competition.

The team members toured the district, stopping atΒ Garfield, Fairfax and Hopkins elementary schools, as well as the Board of Education. At each stop, the elementaryΒ students clapped and cheered the national qualifiers through the hallways. By all accounts, students were even louder than they were when the state champion basketball team went on a similar tour in March.
