Mentor Announces 'Lego Day' in Honor of Child Battling Cancer

The city of Mentor is encouraging people to spend time with their families and build legos on Saturday.

MENTOR, OH — The City of Mentor has proclaimed Saturday, April 9 as Lego Day in honor of a Garfield Elementary School student battling cancer.

Jacob Gross, a fourth-grader at Garfield Elementary School on Hopkins Road, has battled cancer for three years but doesn't let it affect his positive attitude. And for Jacob, Garfield's "resident superhero," playing with Legos is a favorite pastime, according to a city press release.

And officials in the City of Mentor think we should all be a bit more like Jacob.

To honor Jacob, City officials are encouraging families to spend time together and play with legos on April 9.

“We should all strive to be more like Jacob in life by fighting through the struggles we are faced with while still taking the time to have fun,” says Janet Dowling, President of Mentor City Council, in a press release.
