Mentor Awards Contracts for Repairs on 306 & Hoose

The projects are being supplemented by grant and loan money from the state.

The City of Mentor has accepted the lowest bids for two asphalt and concrete repair projects.

Stow-based Karvo Paving Co. will provide concrete repair to Route 306, from Bellflower Road to State Route 2, while A & J Cement Contractors will conduct asphalt resurfacing on Hoose and King Memorial roads.

The Karvos contract is worth $257,250, and the A & J one is for $497,434.37. Both were approved at the city council meeting in late June.

The Ohio Public Works Commission previously granted a $49,000 grant and $50,000 loan for the Route 306 repairs. City Engineer Dave Swiger said the depth-concrete repairs will occur primarily in the southbound curb and left-turningΒ lanes.

City Manager Ken Filipiak said the project should be done by Sept. 30.

"This is a project that I think everyone would agree is much needed," Filipiak said. "We have seen a lot of deterioration on the concrete on Route 306."

The city has already secured a $282,400 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission for the Hoose-King Memorial project. That project calls for resurfacing on:

  • Hoose Road, from King Memorial to the Concord Township line
  • King Memorial Road, fromΒ HooseΒ toΒ Bringman Court
A & J will also make concrete repairs and place and asphalt overlay in Kings Hollow Court. The company will also replace a culvert on Hoose, near the eastern city limits.

The project is expected to be finished by Oct. 30, Filipiak said.
