MHS Boys Soccer win 2-0 against Eastlake North! Next Game Thurs. 9/5 at home vs Copley!

Last night was a great night for Mentor soccer fans and players! Coach Payne and the boys shut down the Eastlake North Rangers 2 to 0.  The Rangers came out strong with a lot of fast ball play and put pressure on the Cardinals in the first half.  However, Mentor was still able to maintain possession for most of the game with consistent accurate passing and their strong defense did a great job of winning the ball off of North goal kicks and one-on-one matches.

Scoring highlights included 1 goal by Ryan Blass and 1 from Evan Powell.  Each goal was assisted by Captain Colin Eedy.  Mentor gave the North Goalkeeper a workout with 12 shots on goal and allowed only 2 on Mentor keeper Matt Markiewicz who recorded a great save in the final minutes of the game.   When asked prior to the game starting how the boys felt about their 2-2 tie to Stow in the previous game Coach Payne said, "we discussed it and we all felt we could have done better.  We will come out strong today and hope to get on the board early and just play clean soccer." And that is exactly what the Cardinals did last night.  After the game a couple of the opposing team's fans took the time to tell me "Good luck to your team this season.  You have a really good team and you should go far in the postseason."  We believe it too! Go CARDS!!!

The Mentor Boys Varsity faces Copley at home at Mentor High Soccer Stadium on Thursday, September 5th at 7:00 pm! The Junior Varsity game starts at 5.  Come out and watch these amazing teams play!
