Mentor: English As A Second Language Advanced Course To Prep Future College Students

Lakeland Community College is now offering an advanced English as a Second Language (ESL) course that will run Feb. 8 - May 7, 2021. The 12-week course will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 2-3:35 p.m.

Course highlights:

• For those in households where English in not the primary language spoken, or anyone who needs to improve English-language skills to prepare for college-level classes, especially those requiring writing.

• Coursework includes learning proper sentence, paragraph and essay structure; principles of grammar and mechanics; and revising and editing techniques.

• Writing assignments will include paragraphs and short essays.

• Practice listening to lectures in English and taking notes.

• Develop reading comprehension skills, vocabulary, speaking and pronunciation skills.

The cost for the course is $413.40 for Lake County residents. Additional fees may apply.

A limited amount of grant funding is available from The Lakeland Foundation in the amount of $300 toward the course cost for each of the first six students who register.

Deadline to register is Feb. 3.
