Mentor Seniors Celebrated at Military Signing Day

Athletes aren't the only ones who get Signing Day events at in Mentor.

Four seniors let the community in on their plans to serve the country on Wednesday during Military Signing Day at the district's administration building. The event was modeled after the seasonal signing day events the district has for athletes who announce their intentions to compete and study at various universities in the country. However, the students at Wednesday's event were joined by the VFW and American Legion color guard members.

"We are so proud of these young men who are joining the military after graduation from Mentor High School," the district posted on its Facebook page. "Ryan, Jeremy, Martynas and Rafiq, your courage and dedication is inspiring! What a great morning—thank you for letting us share in the start of your military careers!"

Here are the young men and the branches they committed to:

• Ryan Hollis — Navy
• Jeremy Lutz — Army
• Martynas Sidlauskas — Army
• Rafiq Oglesby — National Guard
