EYE Lighting International makes and delivers floodlight that will illuminate the flag during the 10th anniversary of 9/11

Surrounded by the desperate ruins of Ground Zero on the afternoon of Sept. 11, 2001, three New York firefighters raised the American flag on a damaged flag pole. That inspirational moment, captured by a newspaper photographer, became the most unforgettable image of 9/11.

And from dusk to dawn, the American flag will be brightly illuminated over the 9/11 Memorial  & Museum thanks to an architectural floodlight that was recently manufactured by Mentor manufacturer, . The 9/11 Memorial  & Museum will be dedicated Sunday, the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

“To say that we are proud is putting it mildly,” said Tom Salpietra, president and chief operating officer of EYE Lighting International, a leading manufacturer of commercial and industrial lighting systems. “Every EYE employee now has a personal sense of contribution to the nation’s commemoration this Sunday as we remember those lost in the 2001 attacks. To play even a small part of the Memorial is an honor.”

The product, an EYE Urban Act architectural floodlight, has a very narrow six-degree beam spread, which is ideal for flagpole lighting. The floodlight fixture houses a 150-watt ceramic metal halide lamp that enhances red, white and blue colors.

“It all happened very, very quickly,” said Rob Freitag, vice president of marketing for EYE Lighting.

EYE’s independent sales representatives in New York introduced EYE’s floodlight product to the light designer of the 9/11 Memorial project. About a 10 days ago, the light designer selected EYE’s floodlight.

“The sales team and the manufacturing team worked together to make the product very quickly, which we did in two days,” Freitag said. “Of course, everyone knew what the light fixture was for, so it’s been the talk of the building over the last few days.”

The EYE floodlight was delivered to the light designer on Tuesday, and it is expected to be installed at the 9/11 Memorial site by Friday.
