Plaza Boulevard Extension Back on City Council's Agenda

The Mentor City Council is scheduled to discuss the Plaza Boulevard Extension project, , during its meeting 7 p.m. tonight at City Hall.

The council is scheduled to vote on a land purchase that will allow the city to finish the project by lengthening Plaza Boulevard until it intersects with St. Clair Avenue.

That would give drivers a way to get from Tyler Boulevard to Great Lakes Mall without going through busy Mentor Avenue intersections at Chillicothe Road or Center Street.

According to the legislation, the city would pay $325,000 to Prisa III Legacy LLC for .657 acres.

Also on the agenda for tonight's City Council meeting:

• Council will vote on legislation that, if approved, would support  Congressman Steve LaTourette's, R‐OH, . If passed, the act would make it so municipalities would not have to pay streaming fees to cable providers. According to the legislation, AT&T U-Verse has already forced the city to pay $7,000 in streaming fees for the . Time Warner does not charge the city a transmission fee but it could under the current law.

• Finally, the city will receive about $160,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds. Due to federal budget cuts, that is about 18 percent less than last year. The city has recommended to council that they earmark about $105,000 of that for the Western Reserve Community Development Corporation, which helps rehabilitate low- and moderate-income houses. At the moment, the WRCDC has 77 houses on its waiting list. Most of the remaining CDBG money would go to the Fair House Resource Center and public service agencies like Project Hope and Forbes House.
