The Beatles Are Invading Mentor Public Library this Wednesday

If The Beatles aren’t the best band ever, they are at least the most successful.

They have sold more than 106 million albums in the United States alone, according to the RIAA.

They are a band that crosses generations.

It doesn't matter if a person is 60 or 16, there's a good chance they’ve cried while listening to “Yesterday,” danced to “I Saw Her Standing There” or sang the end of “Hey Jude” at the top of your lungs.

Even the most iconoclastic malcontent has a favorite Beatles song.

And there's a good chance people will hear their favorite Beatles tune when Abbey Road performs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. this Wednesday, August 28, at Mentor Public Library's Read House. (The Read House is next door to the library’s Main Branch at 8215 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.)

Abbey Road started performing together 30 years ago and is one of the oldest Beatles tribute bands in the world.

They don't just play the music of The Fab Four. They also wear The Beatles’ iconic costumes. Abbey Road even uses the same guitars, Vox amplifiers and drums that The Beatles used in their concerts.

Amanda Densmore, the manager for adult information services at the Mentor Public Library, said the library is hoping to tap into The Beatles’ cross-generational appeal.

“I have been a fan of the Beatles since Junior High. Who doesn’t love The Beatles?” she said. “This is the most elaborate concert we’ve had so far. Abbey Road even does costume changes and I’m looking forward to that.”

The Abbey Road concert is free to attend, thanks to the sponsorship of the Mentor Arts Commission. Patrons may bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on or dinner to eat during the show, if they so desire.

More than 270 patrons have come to concerts at the Mentor Public Library this summer, including about 130 who supported Mentor-based bands during the Mentor’s Rock Roots concert series the library hosted this July.

Those with more questions regarding programs and events at the Mentor Public Library can call the Main Branch at (440) 255-8811 or visit the library’s web site, www.mentorpl.org.
