Trubisky Shows Weather's No Problem As Mentor Handles Brunswick
Cardinals roll to 6-0 start on the season
Since no team in the area through the first five weeks of the football season has had the ability to stop Mentor’s offense, perhaps a mightier force like Mother Nature might have fared better Friday night.

Trubisky, who piled up 397 all-purpose yards, threw three touchdowns to Connor Krizancic in the first half and ran in another score to keep the Cardinals undefeated (6-0) and drop Brunswick from the unbeaten pack (5-1) in the Northeast Ohio Conference matchup.
Mentor, ranked third in the Division I state poll, averages a hefty 44 points a game with a five-wide receiver set that has baffled opposing defenses all season long. Some wonder if Mentor could pass the weather test with its aerial attack on Friday night.

Well, they did.
“That was always the big question they keep asking me here is, 'can you throw the ball?' It’s not even the rain as much as the wind. There was pretty good wind, and I thought we did a really good job,” Mentor head football coach Steve Trivisonno said.
Trubisky has 20 touchdown passes on the season and six rushing touchdowns. Nonetheless, Trubisky threw a pair of interceptions Friday night bringing his total to 10.
“You’ve got to be concerned with turnovers and penalties. We’ve got to continue to work on that. But when you throw it 40 times, you’re going to throw interceptions every now and then,” Trivisonno said.
Mentor went up, 24-6, at halftime, but Brunswick kept the Cardinals from scoring in the third quarter and got closer on Brunswick quarterback Dan Yohman’s 8-yard TD run to draw to 24-14.
But Trubisky’s 28-yard and Nick Kovach’s 3-yard TD runs in the fourth quarter put down the threat, and the Mentor defense kept the Blue Devils from scoring again. Trivisonno cited and for their play on defense.
Mentor receives perhaps its biggest test of the season when it faces Solon’s experienced defense on the road Thursday with a 7 p.m. start.
“We’ve got to approach it like a league championship game. It’s for a No. 1 seed. It’s for a league championship. It’s a huge ball game, and we’ve got to go on the road and do it,” Trivisonno said.
