Video: Tuesday Night Jazz Jams at Seekers

Seekers Coffee House has hosted a jam session each Tuesday this summer where anyone can play as long as they have the chops and their instrument

Every Tuesday night this summer, they have brought their instruments to  and the rule is anyone can play as long as they can keep up.

Drums, basses, guitars, horns – everybody gets a chance to participate at the summer jazz jam.

Jazz jam sessions are rare, said pianist Joey Skoch. In fact, he could not think of any other ones on the east side of Cleveland.

The Seekers jam is also unusual because it's mostly populated by college-aged and high school students. Consequently, it presents an opportunity for a lot of good, young jazz musicians to hone their craft and get even better.

Skoch suggested the jam session to Seekers. He said participation has increased steadily this summer; and, especially the last three weeks, both the stage and house have been packed.

There will only be two more jam sessions this summer because many of the players will return to college in the upcoming weeks, including Skoch who studies at Capital University in Columbus.

However, Skoch hopes to restart the jam sessions next summer.
