Ann Becker, Ohio Republican Party State Central Committeewoman in Butler County, said Oxford was a prime location to open just weeks before the general election.

“We have a big population of students who are interested in the campaign. The College Republicans in Oxford are a very strong group, so that was part of it,” said Becker.

Location was also key, she said.

“We have a very big county, so we try to make it as easy as we can for folks to be able to access a campaign office to get materials and a place to meet when we do volunteer work,” said Becker.

She said party officials are encouraged by the number of visitors to the office.

Noah Johnson, a third year Miami University student from Logan, Ohio, thinks the office will appeal to college students. Johnson is registered to vote and said he is an active member of Miami’s College Republicans Club.

“Considering that college students are a major part of the Oxford community, this new office is likely to devote a significant amount of time to reaching young voters in the area, in addition to its regular voter outreach efforts,” said Johnson.

Third-year Miami student Ali Mitchell, from Cleveland, agreed.

“Millennials are an essential demographic for any politician because they’re very active on social media. On my own observations, I think millennials tend to go with what’s popular and trendy. If a politician, Trump in this case, can gain a presence among college students, they will most likely have a better chance of securing votes from that voting block,” she said.
