Berea Is 1 Of Ohio's Safest Cities: Study

The National Council for Safety and Security ranked the city as the 35th safest in Ohio.

BEREA, OH - The City of Berea was ranked as one of Ohio's 50 safest cities by the National Council for Safety and Security (NCSS). The organization ranked Berea as the 35th safest city in the state.

The top five safest cities in Ohio were Russell Township, Chester Township, Dover, Bay Village, and Bellevue. The NCSS determined the rankings using the FBI Uniform Crime Report, population data, and NCSS internal research. Cities with less than 5,000 residents, and municipalities that did not submit a report to the FBI for the Uniform Crime Report, were disqualified.

Cities that weren't disqualified were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes per 100,000 people. Violent crimes were weighted more heavily than property crimes.
